Before going out and buying that sleek new car or sport SUV, you may want to first check on how much it is going to cost for auto insurance. Based on the recently published list of vehicle insurance rates by Insure.com, which covers rates the most expensive and least expensive cars, you may find a few surprises.
As you might expect, luxury cars top the list for the most expensive car insurance rates in the United States. The distinction of being number on the highest premium list belongs to Mercedes Benz. Their SL65 AMG will run you $3,543.81 for a one-year policy.
On the other end of the scale the lowest insurance premium goes to the Chrysler Town & County LX Minivan. You can insure it for $1,091.80, less than one-third the cost of the Mercedes Benz.
Ironically, half of the ten lowest vehicles to insure are all minivans. Why is this the case? According to Insure.com’s senior managing editor Amy Danise, “People who choose minivans are likely to be carrying children and using the minivan for errands. They are likely to be safe, responsible drivers.”
Other vehicles that will cost you less for auto insurance include four different models from Toyota and two from Honda. All of the top ten were within $65 of each other.
Coming in behind the Mercedes SL65 AMG is the BMW 750i and 750Li respectively. Not surprisingly, all of the bottom ten cars are not your typical every day driving cars. For example, the Mercedes SL65 AMG will run you $198,750.
You can find the auto insurance rates on all of the top and bottom ten cars the Insure.com website. There is also a calculator to type in any vehicle you would like to get results for.
