Here we go again. Another bailout, and another $50 billion dollars of our tax money. This time it is the the Big 3 automakers getting in on the money grab. Today, Democrats are telling the White House to get busy and sign off on a new measure that would provide the auto industry with a fresh infusion of cash to keep them afloat. This is after they already received $25 billion last month. What is going on? Is it really necessary?
The planned bailout of $50 billion is one thing, but to find out that HALF of it is to go toward paying pensions and health benefits is another. So think about this for a minute. We, the taxpayer, are being told and not asked, to fund the retirement and health benefits of the auto industry, along with all their other debts. Don’t get me wrong, I’m compassionate for my fellow man, but is this right? Where does the madness stop? Is the taxpayer going to fund your retirement? Your health insurance? I think we all know the answer to that.
This government bailout situation has gotten completely out of hand now. Don’t forget, we also have the credit card companies talking bailout as well in the coming months and who knows how many others are preparing to line up with their hands out. What has happened to capitalism in the U.S.A.? The very backbone that this nation was built on is being broken as we speak.
I fully understand the importance of our auto industry. I’ve owned and driven vehicles made by the big 3 for many, many years. But we must let business be business. We simply can not go around bailing out every business and industry that makes poor decisions, and these 3 auto makers have made a boatload of them over the years. Someone has to take a stand and say ‘enough is enough’.
Businesses survive and thrive based on their decisions. Those that do a good job of it make a profit and expand. Those that don’t go out of business because of it. To just throw money at this is irresponsible and reckless. We have millions of small business that fail every year in this country. Are they now going to receive bailouts? Are we at the point now where we say “it’s ok that you’ve run your business into the ground, we will support you and give you all the cash you need”? Sounds silly, but that seems to be the message our elected leaders are sending the world. It’s really no different than enabling a drug addict or alcholic.
Every one of us needs to be asking the questions of where does this end? How can we possilbly continue to pay for this and survive as a nation? What effects is this going to have on us? How is the average American going to be able to foot the bill in higher taxes for these bailouts in the coming years? These are only a few of the many questions that we all should be asking.
I’d like to get your thoughts on this current situation. Let me know what you think about it and any possible solutions you may have to fix it.
