In what can only be described as bizarre, Paul Duran Jr., a 23 year old Oklahoma State Penitentiary inmate, was found beaten to death by Jessie James Dalton, the same killer that the 23 year old testified against in the murder trial.
Paul Duran Jr. and Jessie James Dalton were both defendants in the murder of an Oklahoma City man in 2002. Billy Wayne Ray was shot to death at the hands of Dalton. During the trials, Duran accepted a guilty plea for robbery in exchange for testifying against Dalton.
Dalton was then convicted of murder and was sent to the Oklahoma penitentiary to serve a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Duran was also sent to the same McAlester, OK prison to serve his term. What happened next is almost beyond belief. During this time, Duran got into a fight with another prisoner who he shared a cell with. He was then removed from his cell and mistakenly put into the same cell with Dalton.
Within 15 minutes of being placed in the same cell, Dalton beat Duran to death in a bloody and brutal beating.
Prison officials are only saying they have no idea why Duran was mistakenly put in the same cell with Dalton, but are investigating guards to try and determine the cause. The case certainly raises a lot of questions. You wonder if Duran said anything to guards before being put in the same cell with Dalton? Did guards know the case history and do it on purpose?
