Amazingly, a hotel beneath Lake Jocassee has been discovered intact. The lake was once known as the Jocassee Valley before the Duke Power Community built a dam and turned the valley into a 300 foot lake in 1973.
Lake Jocassee is located in upstate South Carolina. The hotel that was found was known as the Attakulla Lodge. The owners tried to fight off the inevitable, but Duke Power went through with the massive project.
The hotel is said to be the only structure that remains intact after all these years.
According to Debbie Fletcher in an interview with CNN, “The hardest part is me is I can’t take my children there. It’s one thing to lose your house, but to lose a part of your heart… it’s really still hard.”
The story goes on to say that Fletcher was even able to go down into the lake and see the hotel for herself.
