As expected overnight, Macy’s store closings have been announced today. From coast to coast, Macy’s will be shutting down some of its department stores in the coming weeks.
According to Macy’s they say that December same-store sales fell 4%. They also said that this was “the most challenging economic environment in memory.”
Stores on the list to be closed include those located in:
Crestwood Mall, St. Louis, MO
Brookdale Center, Brooklyn Center, MN
Ernst & Young, Los Angeles, CA
The Citadel, Colorado Springs, CO
Palm Beach Mall, Palm Beach, FL
Bellvue Center, Nashville, TN
and many other stores as well.
According to Macy’s store closings information, final markdowns and clearance sales will begin in the next week.
Of course, Macy’s was not the only department store to post big losses this past holiday season. In the coming days I would expect more news like this to come out as more stores give their earnings reports.
