Mt. Redoubt – Alaska Volcano Eruption

Mt. Redoubt in Alaska began erupting last night around 10:30 local time and continues to erupt today. This latest Alaska volcano eruption is now spewing white ash 50,000 feet into the sky.

Mt. Redoubt is approximately 140 miles southwest of Anchorage and nowhere close to any populated communities. The airport in Anchorage continues to be up and running as well, although flight patterns have been adjusted.

The volcano has shown signs of activity since January. The last few days geologists have reported a massive rise in activity in the crater and they knew it was about to erupt.

Four major explosions have been know to have occurred since the mountain began erupting. Ash is expected to fall for many miles around the mountain. The situation is being closely monitored and may change at any time according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory.

The volcano last erupted in 1989-90, lasting for 6 months and spewing ash everywhere. In this current eruption, ash is mixed with snowfall and expected to make a big mess. One can only imagine.
