For nearly three decades now, the Skins Game has been a Thanksgiving tradition for the PGA. But due to the current economic conditions are country is in, the Skins Game has been shelved.
The PGA has left the door open to a 2010 comeback, but don’t bet on it. For the past several years the event has drawn lesser know tour pros than previous years.
The first event was held in 1983 and featured the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Tom Watson. Compare that to last years foursome of KJ Choi, Phil Mickleson, Rocco Mediate and Stephen Ames.
It was interesting and fun in the early years because you really got a chance to listen in to golf’s biggest names let loose and have fun.
So long Skins Game, but we’re sure it will be replaced with another event soon. After all, the PGA offseason isn’t called the “Silly Season” for no reason.
