You knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. Beginning in 2010, the Flying Car will available. The Terrafugia Transition has been developed on a platform by former NASA engineers who swear that it will revolutionize how we travel in the future.
The flying car is said to be a two-seater that can turn into a plane in only 15 seconds. Amazingly, it runs on normal unleaded gas and can be driven all around town as you would with any vehicle.
According to Carl Dietrich who is in charge of Terrafugia, “This is the first really integrated design where the wings fold up automatically and all the parts are in one vehicle.”
The flying car features a 100hp engine and claims to fly up to 500 miles on a single tank of gas.
The price tag? A cool $200,000. And there are already 40 orders for this car once production begins.
Before you get too excited though you will need to find a place where you can take off. U.S. laws make it illegal to take off from any road or highway, except in Alaska.
Another big issue would be getting any type of insurance on you or the vehicle/plane.
No word on how the FAA feels about the new flying car.
Technology truly is amazing though…
