There’s a new diet plan making the rounds called the “Instinct Diet”. Written by Dr. Susan B. Roberts, this diet book shows you how to work with your instincts, instead of against them, to lose weight without the struggle.
Dr. Roberts is an expert in areas of nutrition and psychiatry at Tufts University with over 20 years of research included. She is also the director of an Energy and Metabolism Laboratory, so she has the credentials to know what she’s talking about.
According to Dr. Roberts, our eating behavior is an instinctive response to our environment. In addition, we have times when we sense an almost uncontrollable desire to eat, and that desire stems from our unconscious mind.
All of us have these 5 basic food instincts that impact us and our eating behavior.
- Hunger: We have a strong and very normal need to satisfy our hunger.
- Availability: We tend to eat whenever we can.
- Calorie Density: The more calorie dense a food the more we like it!
- Familiarity: We prefer and like familiar foods because we associate such food with safety and comfort.
- Variety: The more food choices we have the more we eat.
Although these 5 responses may seem simple, they often work against us in our struggle to lose weight.
The Instinct Diet shows you how to overcome these “habits” we’ve had built-in over the years to finally begin to eat less and lose weight. Also included in the book are meal plans, recipes and much more.
There is a separate diet plan for vegetarians as well. She also includes sections on eating home cooked foods or eating prepared foods. We found that to be very helpful.
All in all, there are over 100 recipes and 8 weeks worth of meal plans. This is not a “gimmick” type of diet plan, but more of a lifestyle change.
Based on the many online reviews and those on Amazon, the Instinct Diet has an overwhelming number of satisfied dieters who say they are finally losing the weight they have been wanting to lose, without feeling hungry all the time.
