For all guys who like tall women, Sandra Allen was that and then some. She held the title of Worlds Tallest Woman up until her death on August 13, 2008. So, just how tall was she?
Sandy Allen was measured at 7′-71/4 inches! And what makes this so unbelievable is the fact that she could have grown a lot taller had it not been for having surgery at 22 years of age.
Allen suffered from a condition called gigantism. It was brought on from a tumor in her pituitary gland. She had surgery to remove it because left untouched, it would have created many medical problems and certain death.
She was born in Chicago in 1955 and was named the tallest woman in the world by the Guiness Book of World Records in 1976 when she was just 21.
Allen had many accomplishments in her life that included a movie role with Donald Sutherland in I1 Casanova di Federico Fellini, as well as other made for TV films and shows. She even had a sond made for her by a New Zealand band.
Unfortunately, her medical condition took over her everyday life, forcing her to a wheelchair. In a bit of irony, Allen was living in an Indiana retirement facility at the time of her death along with Edna Parker, the oldest living person.
By all accounts, everyone that ever met her agreed that she was one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Sandy Allen was a truly amazing woman.
Hi,
Thanks for such a nice tribute to Sandy. She was my friend for 31 years and a very special lady. I recently released a novel based on her experiences in high school, aimed at middle-schoolers but any age can enjoy it. “World’s Tallest Woman: The Giantess of Shelbyville High” is available on my website at http://www.thegiantessbook.com or check it out at amazon.com.
